Humans to be Replaced by Spiritual Robots by 2100
Feb 4
In April 2000 a conference was hosted by Stanford University to discuss the question of wether or not we the People can be replaced by spiritual robots. There were many very intelegent and capable thinkers in attendance (my invite must have been lost in the mail).
My particular favorite response was by Kevin Kelly (kk.org).
His stand basically boiled down to “Nope..or mayby” based on timeline (we would only have lasted about 400 generations), defining what “Humanity” was, the limited occurance out right replacement (for example I have a new love in Katrin…but I still love technology), whether robots will replace us or simply be Humanity 2.0 (children of ours), what the hell does “Spiritual” mean anyways, and finally do we want it to happen.
Good points really, but of course Kevin Kelly is known as a thinker.
A hinge point for me is the motivation factor. Why would we develop Spiritual Robots? In economics they say Money goes where the interest is, and I am of the thought Spiritual Robots will be pricey.
I don’t see Robots trampling around, getting Spiritual on us within 100 years (my great great grandchildren’s time). But then again my own Great Grandma Armela didn’t predict what my days would look like and could not possibly know the shape the 98 years of her life would follow.
Also, to what purpose would Spiritual Robots serve God. How would they fit in his plans? I have no idea, I have detached my level of planning for God’s longtime ago.
Bah, I just don’t know.
