The Saltine Challenge.

My Family (The Hoffmans) come from a long line of adventures and people who push the limits of human experience.

Witness this year’s COUSIN CHALLENGE.

Improving on the rather messy and disappointing, MILK CHALLENGE, we opted for the vomit inducing Saltine Challenge.

Basically, the goal is to eat 6 saltine crackers in one minute, no water or digestive lubricant allowed.
Try it. Very nearly impossible, we all failed. Feel free to check the video proof of failures.

Out my window…awesome parking.

IMG_0054

From my “office” in our apartment I have a nice view of the street below. Now, I don’t get some much of the Marching Bands, Naked People, and total weirdness that Pike-Dwellers get…but I do get some entertainment.

A Highlight of my morning is watching people park. There are three parallel spots in front of the building…oddly, only the center one seems to revolve at any regularity. Basically I get the Bad Parking Channel, 24/7. This is the one from this morning. Please note the large clearance in the front and negative clearance in the back.

This was the result of a solid 15 point parking job, executed over 10 minutes. Awesome.

November Novel Writting Month

Sure, we are more than a week into November.  Sure, I am not participating this year.  However, I thought it would still be worth mentioning November is National Novel Writing Month.  You can read more about it here.

All I’m saying is this “Write a novel, thank me in credits.”  If you can bust out a few thousand words a day for a month you are home free.  Go ahead, yammer away at the keyboard.  I will help you write a dust jacket that makes your random typings into a coherent narative.

Chicken with Cranberries

Ah Cranberries, I thought my love/hate relationship with you would never recover after your terrible mid-90’s albums. But, how can I stay mad at you?
Oh! You brought your friend, Chicken, along….sounds like a party.

Behold! A slower cooker recipe that feeds 6 (non-Hoffman’s).

Chicken breasts are cooked in the slow cooker, with cranberries and spices.
INGREDIENTS:
6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 small onion, chopped
1 cup fresh cranberries
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
3 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
1 cup orange juice
3 tablespoons flour mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water
PREPARATION:
Place all ingredients, except flour-water mixture, in the slow cooker/Crock Pot. Cover and cook on low 6 to 7 hours, until chicken is tender. Add flour mixture in the last 15 to 20 minutes and cook until thickened. Taste and adjust seasonings.
Serves 4.
