Isaiah 43:

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”

There’s more

Well, that’s pretty straightforward.

Mid March Updatery.

Lot’s of iron’s in the fire right now, here are some highlights:

  • House.  Looks promising, could be moving next week.  Worse case scenario, we are one step closer (homelessness) to my dream of Yurt living.
  • Currently, I have mastered the G and E cords on the GeTar.  I can’ t switch between them, but in my world of cutting edge tunes it is not required.
  • My plan of getting my niece to accept the nickname John C. Riley as her own only to have me reveal to her who J.C. Riley is on her 18th birthday is moving along nicely. Nicely indeed.
  • Kate made a fort out of boxes. Not really. I did, it is boss.
  • Removing this from my list of things to create since someone beat me to it.  Snooze ya looze.

Top of the Head – Mid February

People often stop me, asking “Ryan, what are you into right now?”  Here are some things from the last week or so.

  • Reading System of World by Neal Stephensen. Crickets, this is good. Of course, one should read the other books in the series first.
  • Reading Philippians
  • Learning about the Speed of Gravity.  Which I had never considered until this week when I was in the shower.  Been fun, starting from Newton and going through to present day drama.
  • Less is More, continuing the process of getting rid of stuff.  This week ditched my beloved giant recliner (given to my Cousin).  Next on the chopping block 20 pounds of books, another chair and clothes that were totally fly 10 years ago.
  • Added another old family video, Trampo-o-fun
  • Updated the Church Podcast
  • Valentines Day. Kate got me candy (Specifically, Violet Crumble) and I got her something from our favorite art gallery, Blue Bottle here in Capitol Hill.
  • Seriously considering doing the Tough Guy Challenge.  Basically a race, but you have to run through a fiery field, cross a freezing pond, etc.  No sweat, I may be slow but I am pretty much indestructible.
  • Sidenote: Have you seen Boston.com’s Big Picture? Great Photographics Journalism
  • Facebook is dead to me.  Again.

The return of the podcast?

Some of you may or may not know the awesomeness which was my my podcasting days.

Well, besides picking up my beloved Bible Bit by Bit…I am considering a new venue. Something that really reflects how interesting and great I am!

I am looking a doing a travel narative ‘cast for a bit.  The few technical hurdles (mainly me remembering what I did with my mic cable after I moved) will be overcome shortly.

So, having said this…anyone want to be a guest?

In a bout of absolute and shocking creative mania, Kate and I made a comic. Lacking the ability to illustrate it, we were forced to spend hours at a nearby park enacting the various scenes.

We used Plasq’s Comic Life (AWESOME) to the layout. I then used a neat little flash program to make it flippable. You click on the corners, and drag the page around…go ahead…play with it.

Ruby Requirements Restrict (my access)

Back in the day (Last Monday) I wrote about pursuing a Ruby Certificate at the UW extension campus.

They got right back to me about the suggested prerequisites for the program.

Exploring Education Endeavors

I have an Undergraduate in Business Management from the University of Phoenix*. Learned a lot from the program, developed some great skills, and even made some friends.

Here’s the kicker, I mostly have a degree. Sitting 9.37 credits (something lime 3 1/3 classes) from completion is embarrassing, and I need to remedy that pronto. There are a few options of how to do this.

Shouldn’t be that hard or costly to wrap this up.

What next then?

  • MBA (most likely at University of Phoenix, I like the program there)
  • Ruby on Rails Cert course at UW extension campus
  • Stay home, have a beer

Time will tell I suppose.
Disclaimer: I work for the University of Phoenix. Decided to attend almost four years ago, got a job there to cover the cost. Got promoted a few times, finished the degree, stuck around. Now I help other folks go to school. Any comments I make in regard to the University of Phoenix are my own, and in no way sanctioned by the University.

Telecommuter Tax Benefits for Employers

I am all over this bill.

A vastly simplified flat rate home office deduction ($2500 or the profit from your home-based business, whichever is lower), replacing the current complex prorated system that requires exclusive use of part of the home.
A telecommuting tax credit that gives employers up to $2400 credit for each employee who starts telecommuting during the year.
An exclusion from employee income of employer-provided telecommuting equipment including computers and broadband access equipment, making such equipment a tax-free fringe benefit.

This that and this an uh….

Actually, I have no idea the proper way to say that.

“This that and this anna…”

“This that and his a’nuh…”

Really there are no shortages of ways, although I suspect there is one right answer. I will leave that to the philosophers.

So, what have I been doing?

Well, I have been posting at D.U.T.C.H and recording podcasts all over again!

Check out undirected brilliance at odeo and the bible at iTunes (search for Ryan Hoffman).

I will put The Bible on odeo when I have time to convert some files over.

This is a strange strange song I made up one very blustery morning when I totally awesome and not mentally deficient dog made a break for the border.

I think one I will have to face the reality of missing a job opportunity because they googled me and found me explaing the concept of the hole or something.
